Day Trip to Fond Ferdinand, Anse Georgette & Anse Lazio – Nature Walk/Trail
It is worth visiting the Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve on Praslin and the starting point can be found by a small, red/white sign in the car park at Anse Marie-Louise. The visitor's center at the reserve is simple but the staff is always happy to welcome all visitors.
This guided tour to Fond Ferdinand Nature Reserve should always be in the morning. With an area of 122 hectares, Fond Ferdinand is more than 6 times larger than Vallée de Mai and is even richer in terms of endemic plant and animal species, including as many Coco de Mer palms as that of Vallée de Mai.
The two or three-hour journey up to the viewpoint is well worth it. From this viewpoint, you can enjoy the beautiful view of Praslin as well as the other inner islands i.e. In one direction you can see Curieuse, Sister, Coco, Round, Felicité, and La Digue, whilst in the other, you can see Frégate, Mahé, and Silhouette. From Fond Ferdinand then spend the afternoon at Anse Georgette and Anse Lazio beaches.
FOND FERDINAND: A smart alternative to the very popular Vallée de Mai.
This former palm plantation was ravaged by fire in 1990; it was painstakingly restored before being opened to the public in 2012. Today, the site boasts a magnificent forest of coco de Mer trees covering more than 150 hectares (370 acres), parts of which are open to visitors. Enjoy the tranquility of the trails, which are less busy than those on the UNESCO site just a few km away.
